Swinging into the Lows

Damn this week has not turned out well for me so far. Having a fallout with a close friend feels just as bad as breaking up with a long time partner...it makes you feel like you're inadequate, unworthy, useless...

What I've learned (however cliched it might sound) is that no matter how hard you try, you simply cannot please everyone. Instead, you must compromise on how your actions will influence the people around you, your friends and family, for the best overall outcome. This is a skill I need to improve on, since clearly my evaluation of certain situations is still pretty sub-par. It doesn't matter if one can stay sober all night, but it does matter when that designated driver doesn't drive anyone home, while letting others under the influence do their work.

This brings me to a famous quote - "with great power, comes great responsibility". It was my responsibility, having the 'power' to drive a car and not be under the influence, to help the intoxicated get home safely, and I have miserably failed in that regard.

Trying to find a song to fit my mood, I realised that there aren't really any songs I know of which talk about a close friendship going astray...damn =/

But there's always the silver lining, and I know I'll never make that stupid mistake again.
